Ordering Information FAQ
ORDERING PROCESS / INFORMATION

1) Email me and let me know what I can do for you with as much detail as possible.

I’ll reply within 12 hours with a quote or respond with further questions. (If you do not hear from me, I didn’t get your email, so please resend it or check your junk mail folder).

2) Initial Payment / Shipment

BUILDS: If you are requesting a build, 53% payment is due before the project can begin.

This is a non-refundable fee because I use this payment to order specific parts for your build as well as begin the PCB etching - once this is started, there’s no going back - thus the reason for this deposit being non-refundable.

MODS/REPAIRS: If you are requesting a modification or repair, 100% of payment is due at the time I receive your unit or before it will be shipped back to you.   I will provide you with shipping information via email.
DO NOT SEND ME A PEDAL THAT REQUIRES A SIGNATURE!!! I AM NEVER HOME TO SIGN FOR THEM AND GET HOME FROM WORK TOO LATE TO PICK UP ITEMS.  ITEMS INSURED FOR MORE THAN $200 AUTOMATICALLY REQUIRE SIGNATURE, SO BE WARNED

PAYMENT:
I accept Paypal, Money Orders, Trades or Cash - no other methods - PERIOD!
With trade ins, let me know what you have to offer and if I’m interested in it, I’ll let you know - this could be a full or partial payment.

4) Once your project is started; you can check the status of your build on the main page of the website, which I will update on a daily basis or as updates become worth posting.  Once your project is completed, you will be provided a demo video of your unit being tested.  At this point, final payment is required before the item will be shipped to you.

SHIPPING:
I always ship via USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation and insurance.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

In your YouTube videos, you say you're using studio monitors to demo pedals thru.
What specific studio monitors are you using?

I'm using Yamaha MSP5's.

I live in another country with a different currency than USD, how do I pay you?
You'll need to pay thru Paypal and it will allow you to convert it to USD there.

Does the Dual Resistafier work well with low tunings?
Definitely.

I live close to you (Cincinnati, Ohio) - do you allow drop offs/pick ups?
Sure thing.  I work out of my house, so just make sure I know that you're coming in advance and we'll set up a time.  Email me.

I want to send my Line 6 unit in for a bunch of mods, how much will it be? - I also live in another country, so what is shipping going to cost?
All you have to do is go to the Line 6 mods page (here) and add up the price of all of the mods you want.
If you live in the U.S. -- add $15 to that price.
If you live in another country - see my post here

Simply add up the cost of the mods plus the shipping and send that amount to me via Paypal (jim@r3fx.com) You can send cash or USPS Money Orders as well.
My address to ship to is on the Contacts page.

Do I lose anything if I get my Line 6 unit modded with the double preset mod?
Not really.  If you use an external expression pedal, it will disengage the double preset mod.  When you unplug the expression pedal - the double preset mod is active again.  You can use one or the other, but not both at the same time.

I want to order a pedal, how long does it take?
In general, I say 2 weeks, but often times they are completed quicker.

Does the Dual Resistafier sound the same if I get the two channel version without the LED channel indicator?
Yes.  The difference between the two channel version with and without the LED is this.   The version without the bi-colored LED can be channel switched using a 3PDT switch, but to have the bi-colored LED option, one more pole on the switch is needed (a 4PDT switch) — which costs significantly more than a 3PDT switch, thus the upcharge if you want the bi-colored LED.  I realize that a relay switching option could help avoid this need for a special switch, but when you factor in the cost of the relay with the switch you would still need to make it happen, it’s not worth the extra effort at this time to use relays.
You’re not just paying for a bi-colored LED, but a very expensive 4PDT switch as well.  Since the Dual Resistafier is a high gain pedal, the focus is on the highest gain possible with the pedal when it comes to the single channel version, so the single channel version will be biased and tweaked for the best high gain.  (i.e.; this would be equivalent to the red channel on the dual version).  There are pot value differences and biasing difference between the single channel version and the dual channel version.

What will my pedal "look" like?
This is sort of up in the air to be honest.  Some people like the look of an unfinished enclosure while some like something a little more fancy.
I’m not going to try to use some crazy handpainted silliness as a marketing gimmick to help sell overpriced pedals; that market is already cornered.
I can paint enclosures solid colors and if you have a preference, I will try to accommodate; but be aware that I am not a high output factory, so it will be a spray paint job in my garage.  Maybe I’m better at it than you are; maybe not.  It’s what’s inside that counts.
I have attempted doing some etched enclosures in the past with decent results, but it’s an extra time consuming step, so if that’s something you would like - be warned that it could add a couple days to your build time.
When I receive a box of enclosures, I will often spray paint most of them with various colors so that I can have some ready to build into for those that don’t care what the enclosure looks like.  I try to do some that are a little more basic in color for those that don’t want something too wild; but I’m not opposed to doing a florescent pink enclosure either.   The good part about this is that I often use different colors and no two are ever alike, so you do truly get a unique pedal unless I specifically go out of my way to make one look like another.  In the past, I have done some guitar swirling and may eventually offer this as an option for pedal builds - still need to test that out, so watch my videos and when you see some start to pop up - you’ll know that I’ve started experimenting with it on pedals.

As for knob placement and such; this is something that I am evolving with and getting better at all the time — I know that the first few pedals that I built had some alignment problems inherent with drilling by hand — like I said, these are all hand built pedals, no mass production here.
If you notice the difference in how well the new Dual Resistafiers look in comparison to my original, I think you’ll easily be able to tell that I’m getting a lot better at this.

Knob Selection - Sometimes I can accommodate special requests, but often letting me use “in stock” knobs are the best way to make your project move along quicker.

Do you make your own PCB boards or are they radio shack boards?
I do etch all of my own boards using high quality copper clad board.
I do not send boards out to be etched, I do everything in-house to keep my costs to a minimum.

Do you offer a warranty or return service?
As for a warranty - as long as you haven’t opened the unit and done any work on the unit, I will offer free lifetime (mine of course) service within reason.  Damage to units from neglect or improper power usage is not covered under free warranty repair.  Switches have a limited warranty; since it is an item that wears out - if it fails completely in the first six months of use, I will replace it free of charge.
As for returns - popular units such as the Dual Resistafiers, Echo Base delays and Cabinet Simulators are eligible for partial refund after their return.
Returns must be done with approval and within a 7 day timeframe.
Refunds will not be given for the cost of consumables, PCB etching and shipping charges.  All effects are hand built, one at a time, by one person - so great time and effort went into building YOUR effect - please don’t waste my time.

Will you ship to <insert non-USA Country here>?
Yes.  For a quote on shipping to your country - try going
here and choosing your country and then choosing “package” and enter the weight as “2 pounds”.  For Line 6 units, the weight is closer to 5 pounds.  The “medium” sized flat-rate box should give you a good idea of what to expect shipping charges to be.   If they are significantly less, I’ll refund you the difference.   If it’s close either up or down by a couple dollars, remember how poor our economy is these days in this country and consider it a gift to help offset the high gas prices of my stupid SUV to drive to the post office.

Do you sell "kits"?
I’ve often been asked for kits of my mods and the main reason that I have not yet offered them is due to time restrictions for me to sit down and document the steps - when I get the time, I will start putting together kits for purchase; both with parts or instructions only if you would like to source your own parts.
Same goes for building my pedals, but that may be much farther down the road.  Someday hopefully!  Until then, you’ll have to settle for plain old fashioned, hand made in the USA custom built pedals.

What song is it that you're playing in <youtube video>?
I record demo videos of all of the new builds that I do and some of the mod work as well.  This is both to give you an idea of what to expect and to prove that the unit works and is tested before it leaves my bench.  Because the focus is on the actual function and tone of the unit, I’m almost always just noodling around with whatever comes out and there’s no pre-planned riffs or songs that I play - just whatever comes out - be it good, bad or out of tune…  If I happen to play a riff or part of a song that you’re wondering about; email me with the video and what time the clip comes in and I’ll try to tell you what it was that I was playing.
Maybe I should start to come up with some pre-planned demo tracks, because I have been asked this question more than a few times…
